The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Morris County during the overnight hours.
The agency says that the tornado was located in Rockaway Township.
Powerful storms crossed through New Jersey Wednesday night into Thursday morning, prompting some tornado warnings early Thursday morning.
The weather service says that more details will be released on Friday.
Tornadic activity has been quite active in New Jersey this summer. The Garden State saw five tornadoes touch down on July 29, two of them rated as EF-2 tornadoes.
