The last words of the pilot in the worst U.S. air crash in more than seven years were "Jesus Christ," and then the first officer screamed as Flight 3407 plunged to the ground.Flight 3407 took off from Newark Liberty Airport on Feb. 12. Twelve people from New Jersey were among the fatalities when that plane crashed on approach to Buffalo.
A cockpit voice recorder transcript released Tuesday by the National Transportation Safety Board show that only minutes before the crash, Captain Marvin Renslow and First Officer Rebecca Shaw chatted about her career and shared their fear of flying in icy weather.
Moments later the Dash 8-Q400 Bombardier, a twin-engineturboprop experienced an aerodynamic and plunged into a house,killing all 49 people aboard and one man on the ground. Twelve people from New Jersey were among the casualties.
Tuesday's hearing was held in Washington, but was simulcast at the Rennaisance Hotel near Newark Airport. Family members tell News 12 New Jersey they feel the investigation into the crash has been thorough, but is only the start of a long process.
