Residents told News 12 they heard two separate explosions before the power went out.
One woman said she woke up to the smell of smoke and the sound of firetruck.
"It started at 7 a.m. When I was looking out my window, the tree and the branches were on fire. It was hitting against the electrical wires," one woman said.
Then, two hours later, she said the electrical pole outside her home exploded.
"We heard a boom. This thing blew up," she said.
The outages reportedly began at 9 a.m., beginning at the intersection of Lawton Avenue and Calhoun Avenue.
News 12 cameras captured downed wires everywhere.
Con Edison crews were quickly on scene to assess the source of the outage and make repairs.
Full power was restored to the Throgs Neck neighborhood by 4 p.m. on Monday.
