Passengers of United Airlines Flight 627 from Denver to Newark Liberty International Airport say it was mere seconds before the plane's landing on runway 22 Saturday afternoon went from normal to frightening.
Authorities say the tires blew while landing and sent the plane skidding down the runway.
“There really wasn't any time to scream,” Caroline Craddock told News 12. She was one of 166 passengers on the aircraft.
"We can smell the burning, like burning tires, and the pilot came over the intercom and said we had a malfunction landing,” said Craddock. “She said a bunch of tires blew out.”
According to the FAA, the aircraft skidded to the left side of the pavement, leaving the left main landing gear stuck in a grassy area.
The airline said the plane experienced multiple flat tires upon landing. Dozens of emergency responders surrounded the plane to help passengers safely deplane.

No major injuries were reported. Those who had minor injuries refused any medical treatment.
After a brief shutdown at the airport, passengers had to deal with major delays and some cancellations. Anyone planning on flying out of Newark is urged to check the status of their flight.
