Applebee's Bar and Grill in Howell remains closed for the time being after a fire broke out at the building.

The fire happened New Year's Day around 8 a.m. in the shopping center at the location along Route 9.

Work is underway to fix the damage caused by a fire.

According to the fire chief, the fire began in the ductwork system, but crews were able to save the building.

It is not known when the Applebee's will reopen, however, a contractor says they will be at the location for at least all day.

No one was in the restaurant at the time of the fire.

There were no injuries to report.
