The Garden State Parkway is New Jersey’s longest highway, and it’s also one of the costliest. It runs from Montvale all the way to Cape May, and riding it the whole way would take about three hours and cost $12 in tolls.
“I don’t keep track,” said Tyler, of Neptune City. “E-ZPass takes care of it - I’d rather not look at it!”
Cost is just one of the reasons that News 12 viewers voted it their second-least favorite road to drive in New Jersey.

Commuters also lamented those who drive too slow in the middle lanes - as well as those who drive well over 80 mph. There are no trucks allowed on the Parkway north of exit 105 in Tinton Falls, but that doesn’t ease the congestion.
Some of the worst spots include the merge by the Driscoll Bridge in Middlesex County, the five-lane stretch of Parkway in Iselin near the Turnpike, and the regular slowdown along the parkway north near exits 140-145 by I-280 and the Oranges.
The Turnpike Authority recently renovated every rest stop along the Parkway, which allows for a momentary reprieve. Once it’s time to head back on the road, it probably won’t be long until one of the 11 toll plazas along the Parkway comes calling.
