New Jersey environmental officials have rejected plans to build a new marina in Liberty State Park.
The Department of Environmental Protection notified Texas-based Suntex Marinas of its decision late last month. But the agency didn't provide a specific reason for its decision.
The DEP oversees the 1,200-acre state park.
Suntex wanted to expand its existing marina there and also build a new, 45-acre marina. But environmental groups and elected officials in the area have strongly opposed the proposal, claiming the environment and the public's interest were in "immediate jeopardy" if the plan advanced.
A Suntex official says that the firm was "disappointed" in the state's decision.
