A truck driver from Sicklerville has been accused of killing a woman and hiding her body in the cab of his truck.
Officials say they were called to a Costco warehouse in Monrovia, Maryland on Monday for a welfare check over concerns Matthew Watley was intoxicated.
Officials say Watley, 46, was in the driver’s seat of his tractor-trailer with it running at the entrance to the Costco Depot. They say Watley was under the influence and to keep the community safe, officials say spike stop strips were placed in the front and back of the tractor. They say Watley attempted to flee, striking the stop sticks and went on a slow speed pursuit inside the Costco Distribution lot.
When Watley finally came to a stop, officials said he refused to leave his truck and was pepper sprayed, tased and dragged out.
While in the cab, officials say deputies observed a deceased adult woman on the floorboard of the vehicle. The woman has been identified as Candice Thompson who is also 46 and from Sicklerville.
Officials say Watley is currently at Frederick Health Hospital in Maryland and under security as he continues to undergo medical treatment. He was charged with first- and second-degree murder.
