The Biden administration is planning to use infrastructure law money to make sure every American has access to high-speed Internet – including in New Jersey.
The first $6 million of that commitment to the Garden State was announced at the Trenton Free Public Library. New Jersey will eventually get $100 million from the federal government.
Officials say that closing the digital divide is essential for students and workers to prosper in the 21st Century.
“To create an economy where Americans can participate from anywhere and compete worldwide. By working together and taking the time to do this right, we're going to close the digital divide and increase the opportunity for all Americans to succeed,” says Mark Colon, of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.
President Joe Biden signed the bipartisan infrastructure law in November 2021.
