Thanks to children from across New Jersey, every grave at Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown will be decorated with an American flag this Memorial Day.
Once Gov. Jon Corzine gave the go-ahead, hundreds of Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other New Jersey children began the task of placing flags at all 41,000 graves. It took less than a half-hour Friday afternoon to put all the flags in place.
"We come here to honor our country, and the veterans who have given their lives for our country," said Boy Scout Michael Steiner.
Some of the kids who participated have grandparents buried at the cemetery. Others have parents actively serving in the military.
Cathie Mazzeo, whose son is buried at Doyle Veterans Cemetery, says she?s extremely grateful for the children?s effort and the respect they show to the veterans.
"I can't even express my thankfulness to these children - that these guys and women, go on, remembered and respected,? Mazzeo says.
