The New Jersey Devils' home opener is this Thursday at the Prudential Center. In honor of the new hockey season, News 12 New Jersey’s Karina Gerry laced up her skates to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be a Devil.

Helping her out was "Mr. Devil,” and three-time Stanley Cup winner Ken Daneyko. He gave her pointers on her skating, stick work and goal shooting.

"You get an E for effort," Daneyko said. "It's not easy to get on the ice. I know you’ve only had a couple of experiences with skates."

The Devils will take on the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
