Market Street in Newark has reopened after closing down when a truck spilled cooking oil along the road.

The closure along Market Street lasted for nearly six hours along a stretch from Raymond Plaza to Jackson Street.

The spill created slick and potentially dangerous road conditions.

Once the road was closed down, sand was spread out on the pavement to soak up that oil.

The closure of Market Street had drivers heading east into the Ironbound section of the city or beyond looking for detours.

It caused delays along Ferry Street until the road was reopened.

By 2 p.m., Market Street was open for the evening rush.

It’s not clear if the driver of the truck was found and ticketed for the spill.
