Newark recorded its first homicide of 2012 just hours after the new year got under way.
Newark officials say a 45-year-old Newark man was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 5:25 a.m. on New Year's Day.
Authorities have not offered a motive for the killing of Kenneth McLean, who died hours after being shot in the city's South Ward.
