The city of Newark will be holding its Pride parade this upcoming Sunday.
Interim Newark Public Safety Director Raul Malave says that there will be some intermittent street closures during the parade
Malave says Broad Street will be closed from Lincoln Park to Military Park from 12 p.m. until around 1 p.m. for the event.
“Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and to plan alternate routes,” Malave wrote in a statement.
Newark kicked off its annual Pride Week on Monday with a Pride flag raising. There will also be a Pride concert at New Jersey Performing Arts Center on Sunday.
The Pride festival was started to honor Sakia Gunn, a woman who was stabbed on Broad Street in 2003 after telling a man that she was a lesbian.
