New Jersey’s largest art museum will wait a while longer before reopening its doors during the pandemic.
Museums in New Jersey are permitted to open now, but the Newark Museum says that the staff is working out safety precautions before reopening. Tens of thousands of visitors enter the museum each year.
“The museum we closed in March will be a different museum than the one we open in the fall,” says Deborah Kasindorf, vice president and deputy director of external affairs.
Kasindorf says that staff and visitors will be required to wear masks and that temperature checks will be conducted at the door.
The Newark Museum of Art possesses one of the nation’s largest art collections. While it remains off limits for in-person visits, the museum has developed an original online program to stay connected with artists and art lovers.
Some other museums in New Jersey have also opted to remain closed longer. The Morris Museum in Morristown states that it will welcome back visitors “very soon.”
