Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is making it difficult to breathe for some residents.
The Garden State is under an air quality alert due to the haze.
At the Garret Mountain Reservation in Clifton, the sky is filled with a smoky haze. Visibility is extremely poor. The Air Quality Index in Clifton was at 164 – a level that is considered unhealthy.
The hazy conditions were also in Garfield at Belmont Park. News 12 crews did spot people out in the park, despite the conditions. Now and then some people were spotted wearing masks.
It is recommended for those with lung and heart illnesses to use caution when outside. It is recommended that everyone keep their windows closed or stay indoors if they are concerned about the air.
The alert is expected to last until midnight.
