New Jersey residents find ways to beat the heat
Hazy, hot and humid weather conditions persisted throughout New Jersey for the second day today.
An excessive heat warning was issued for parts of the state, including Mercer, Gloucester, Camden and northwest Burlington counties.
News 12 New Jersey meteorologists say that high temperatures on Thursday reached into the mid-90s. Combined with the humidity, it felt like it was 100 degrees.
Many took advantage of the hot and steamy weather by visiting one of the many spray parks in towns across the state. Others tried to cool down at the Jersey Shore.
Due to high temperatures, many municipalities set up cooling centers for residents to escape the heat if they didn't have a way to stay cool.
When temperatures and humidity get this high, people are advised to stay in a cool environment for as much as possible.
Health officials say that people should drink water regularly, even if they are not thirsty, and avoid sugary drinks.
Residents are also asked to check in on their elderly neighbors or neighbors with disabilities who may need assistance staying cool.
Temperatures above 90 degrees are expected to stick around for several more days.
