There were many winners at this year’s Golden Globe awards, but none bigger than the state of New Jersey.

The Garden State was associated in one way or another with many of Sunday’s winners and nominees.

Ramy Youssef, of Rutherford, won the award for best actor in a comedy series for his show “Ramy” on Hulu.

“We made a very specific show about an Arab Muslim family living in New Jersey and this means a lot to be recognized on this level,” Youssef said in his acceptance speech.

Other New Jersey connections include nominee Meryl Streep who grew up in Somerset County, and Eddie Murphy, a longtime Bergen County resident. Murphy was nominated for “Dolemite.”

Passaic’s Paul Rudd presented alongside Jennifer Lopez.

And Marlboro’s Craig Mazin, a Princeton graduate, won an award for his limited series “Chernobyl.”

Some scenes in "Joker” were filmed in Newark and Paterson. The movie's first major scene was shot on Market Street in Newark. Actor Joaquin Phoenix won best actor in a motion picture drama for his role in the film.
