Police in Spring Valley have announced an arrest as part of their ongoing investigation into four missing juveniles who were located earlier this month at a home in the village.
According to the Spring Valley Police Department, 22-year-old Mynor Martinez-Ramirez, of River Edge, New Jersey, was arrested on Feb. 19 after an arrest warrant was issued for him days earlier. He is facing four charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities say that Martinez-Ramirez hosted a party at the Quality Inn Spring Valley during the early morning hours on Feb. 8 and allegedly provided alcohol to the minors. A court document states that the juveniles involved range in age from 12 to 17 and that Martinez-Ramirez had rented a room at the Spring Valley hotel.
Police said Martinez-Ramirez was released on an appearance ticket.
It is not clear at this time how he knew the four juveniles or how they got to the hotel.
A hotel employee told News 12 that rooms are only rented to people older than 21 and they do not know what happens inside the rooms.
The arrest follows an incident reported on Feb. 8, when the parents of a 12-year-old girl notified police that their daughter was missing. The parents also claimed they received a ransom call from a foreign phone number demanding $1,000.
Later that same day, the 12-year-old was found along with three other juveniles who had been reported missing from Clarkstown, although Clarkstown police told News 12 they only had one juvenile reported missing.
With assistance from local and federal law enforcement agencies, officers located the minors at a home on Johnson Street in Spring Valley.
Police said the home belongs to a friend of the juveniles and emphasized that the investigation into the alleged ransom call remains ongoing.
News 12 has reached out to the hotel’s corporate office, Choice Hotels, for comment, but has not yet received a response.
