Looks like less New Jerseyans are saying "I do."
A new study by PlayStar examined the chances of tying the knot in each state, and New Jersey had the second-lowest marriage rates in the country. The data shows that in 2020, the Garden State saw just four marriages per 1,000, making the state one of the least favorable places to tie the knot. This is 25% fewer weddings than the national average.
The study completed by PlayStar examined the chances of tying the knot in each U.S. state. Using Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data from the last five years, an average marriage rate was calculated per 1,000 residents, which determined that the average across the U.S. is 6.8 per 1,000.
New Jersey is not the only state in the Northeast to have low marriage rates: Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Michigan and Pennsylvania all feature in the top 10 states with the lowest marriage rates. Nevada had the highest marriage rate in the country with 26 per 1,000 residents.
