Several fees associated with owning and purchasing firearms in New Jersey may be increasing.
If the proposal is signed into law, it would be the first increase on gun permits and licenses in the state in 50 years.
The cost of a handgun purchase permit would increase from $2 to $50; firearms identification cards would increase from $5 to $100; handgun carry permits would increase from $50 to $400; retail licenses would increase from $50 to $500 and manufacturer licenses would increase from $150 to $1,500.
The proposed bill has not yet been formally introduced to the state Legislature.
The proposal comes after Gov. Phil Murphy signed six bills to increase gun control laws in the state.
