State of emergency declared in New Jersey as icy precipitation moves through state

Acting Gov. Tahesha Way has declared a state of emergency for the entire state ahead of a major winter storm.
The storm is expected to bring several inches of snow to the northern parts of the state. Icy conditions are expected throughout the state.
PSE&G is reminding residents to stay alert as freezing rain and snow move into the region. Officials say outage tools will help customers stay connected and advise staying at least 30 feet away from downed lines. Residents are urged to prepare emergency kits with items like a battery-powered radio, alarm clock, flashlights and extra batteries.
Even though the storm arrived late Friday afternoon, it caused dozens of flight delays and more than 100 cancellations at Newark Liberty International Airport earlier in the day. Officials advised checking with your airline before leaving for the airport.
Drivers returning from holiday trips should also plan ahead. AAA says the worst traffic will be on Friday as many head home. Leaving in the morning is the best strategy over the next couple of days.
NJDOT issues commercial vehicle travel restrictions on multiple interstate highways beginning Friday, Dec. 26, at 3 p.m.
Restrictions do not apply to the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, or Atlantic City Expressway.
