The Summit Parking Services sent out this alert:

With the possibility of a NJ Transit strike starting this week on Friday, May 16, the Summit Parking Services Agency is sharing information on some of the alternate commuting options from Summit to NYC:

  • Park & Ride Lot #15 – We offer 105 spaces, first come first serve, at a rate of $3.00/day. This is for the Lakeland bus service to NYC.

  • Boxcar offers their service out of Summit; users can make a reservation through their app.

On major highways now there are signs that say "Potential NJ Transit Rail Strike Friday. Info at njtransit.com."

NJ Transit is asking customers to work from home Friday if possible, in the event of a potential rail stoppage. They do have a contingency plan with buses and park and rides, but that they say can only handle 20% of current rail customers.

NJ Transit says they serve more than 350,000 commuters, 70,000 of them go into New York.

The engineer strike could happen as early as 12:01 a.m.Friday May 16 if the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and NJ Transit don't come to an agreement on salary.
