A father of eight from Neptune Township is in critical condition after being shot during a home invasion Friday.
Neptune Township police were called to the home on Monmouth Avenue just after 3:30 a.m. for reports of a home invasion with gunshots. When police arrived on scene they found that someone had broken into the home.
Maurice Wilson, 41, was found inside with gunshot wounds. Wilson's wife tells News 12 New Jersey that her husband was shot in the stomach and chest by an intruder while the family slept.
The wife says that two armed men came through the home's rear bathroom window and tied up her and her two oldest sons. She says that the men stole the family's safe.
Wilson was taken to the hospital and is now fighting for his life.
The intruders have not been caught, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. Anyone who might have any information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Adam Mendes of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office at 1-800-533-7443 or Detective Vincent Letsch of the Neptune Township Police Department 732-988-8000 ext. 422.
