Neighbors in Jersey City say a shooting involving police and U.S. Marshals took place Saturday night outside 137 Jefferson Ave. near Central Avenue.

Video of the scene overnight shows U.S. Marshals and officers in the area blocked off by police tape. They had large shields and bulletproof vests.

People in the area told News 12 New Jersey that they heard gunfire exchanged between an individual and police shortly after 11 p.m.

News 12 New Jersey was still waiting to hear back from U.S. Marshals, Jersey City police and the attorney general for more information as of Sunday evening.

Residents say the incident has left them on high alert because they have never experienced a shooting in the area. They say the neighborhood is relatively safe and has a school nearby.
