A family in Brick Township is dealing with the devastating loss of their home following a fire Tuesday morning. It started in a two-story home along Chelsea Drive.

The house is a complete loss. The front of the house is completely charred and flame gutted the second floor.

The fire filled up the neighborhood with thick smoke around 9 a.m. Neighbors tell News 12 that they started calling 911 for help and began running to the home to help.

The family was not home when the fire began.

Neighbors say that because of the family’s absence, the family dog was not able to escape the smoke and flames.

Several neighbors say that they first saw smoke pouring out of the garage, which eventually collapsed. The flames moved onto the rest of the home, eventually engulfing the upstairs.

Neighbors say that three people live inside the home - two adults and a teenager.

Brick Township fire officials will determine the cause and origin of the fire.
