A community is coming together to help raise money for an 8-week-old pit bull mix named Matilda who was found starving and emaciated over the weekend.

Officials say Matilda is recovering at the Monmouth County SPCA.

Ross Licitra, executive director of the Monmouth County SPCA, says Matilda was suffering and showed signs of being severely mistreated. He says she is responding very well to treatment.

Matilda was found near Myrtle Avenue. Officials say that she was very thin and was shaking.

Community members have donated nearly $6,000 to help pay for Matilda's care and treatment.
