The Metropolitan Transportation Authority deployed bus ambassadors across the Bronx Thursday to help travelers navigate the Bronx bus redesign that launched in June.
The redesign includes 13 major route changes, two new routes and many changes to bus stops and schedules. MTA pamphlets have QR codes that people can scan to see any changes of their route mapped out.
The Bronx bus ambassadors will continue to be on the streets at 18 locations on Friday and next week from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to help with back-to-school travel.
MTA bus ambassador Brian Bond isn't just passing out flyers about the BX11 and BX18 changes. He's part of the customer ambassador program guiding riders as they re-acclimate with the Bronx bus system.
"Just trying to help them because they weren't riding the bus as much in the summertime…now we're just trying to keep them updated,” Bond says.
Bronx commuter Clarina said her home attendant usually updates her on the bus changes, but it was good to see assistance on the street.
"It's very good because people don't know, a lot of people don't know, elderly people like me,” she says.
