Authorities say a Morris County man nearly killed his wife Sunday, stabbing her multiple times with an ice pick.
Police say Terry Vanderbilt was pinned down on top of his wife Anna attacking her with the ice pick when they arrived at the Mt. Arlington home. Anna Vanderbilt had called the authorities, worried her husband was on the warpath.
According to police, Vanderbilt was able to stab his wife 17 times before he was disarmed.
Anna Vanderbilt was rushed to Morristown Memorial Hospital after the attack and is currently listed in stable condition. County prosecutor Robert Bianchi credits the officers with stopping the gruesome incident and saving Vanderbilt?s life.
?Literally speaking, I believe they interrupted the assault and literally saved this woman's life,? says Bianchi.
Vanderbilt is being held on $500,000 bail at the Morris County Jail.
