Mount Vernon residents say they've been without hot water at apartment complex for over a week

People who live at an apartment complex in Mount Vernon say they've been without hot water for more than a week.
"I'm 67 years old, I should not have to live like this," said Evelyn Santiago, who lives at the Levister Towers.
She, along with her neighbors, told News 12 that Wednesday marked eight days without hot water.
"I want to shower but we can't, I have to boil water," said Shakin McGee, who also lives there.
There are several buildings at the location. News 12 was told two of them are dealing with this problem.
"Based on our investigation today, we realize that Levister Towers ownership/management company owes Con Ed $3.4 million just for gas for hot water and that's why the hot water has been disconnected," said Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard in a Facebook video posted a couple days ago.
The properties also have an outstanding city water judgment of approximately $792,000, according to officials with the city.
News 12 was told residents have reported other disruptions to services, like with elevators and electricity.
"Our residents should not have to live in these conditions," Patterson-Howard said in the Facebook video.
The mayor says they've been in contact with the New York State Attorney General's Office.
“Restoring essential services for our Mount Vernon families is our immediate priority, but one payment is not a long-term solution,” said Patterson-Howard in a press release Tuesday.
In an update Tuesday, officials with the city said people with the property advised them they're preparing to make the payment necessary to restore Con Ed service.
The city said on Tuesday that it "has not yet received confirmation that the payment has been completed or service restored."
Leadership of the property is actively addressing the situation, according to a paper posted inside of the impacted buildings.
News 12 visited the management office Wednesday. News 12 was given a phone number for the owner and is waiting to hear back.
The city said that it "continues to explore its legal options, reviewing the financial condition of Levister Towers ownership, monitoring the restoration of essential services and working alongside the tenants association to pursue lasting protections for residents."
