Figure
skaters from across the United States will be gathering next week in
San Jose, California to compete at the 2023 U.S. Figure Skating
Championships – including hometown favorite Isabeau Levito.
At
just 15 years old, the Mount Holly native is the 2022 World Junior
Champion and is considered the most consistent American woman competing
this season in the sport.
“It’s such a nice community here. It’s like a big family and everyone has seen me at my worst and my best,” she said.
Coach Yulia Kuznetsova has been with her since the start.
“I am very proud, she is a hard worker, unbelievable student, unbelievable girl. She is a champion,” she said.
Levito says she doesn’t want to think about a podium appearance and is just concentrating on her performance.
“I love nationals. It is so exciting and there is so much energy and excitement in the air and it's always such a bright and happy experience for me,” she said.
Levito plans to practice a few more times before heading to San Jose. She will first skate on competition ice on Tuesday, but won’t compete until later in the week.
