A motorcyclist is lucky to be alive after falling 50 feet into the Passaic River Thursday evening.
Rutherford police say that Jason Montoni, 29, was riding along Route 3 West when he collided with a car. The crash sent Montoni over a guardrail and into the Passaic River 50 feet below.
Montoni was able to cling to the center pillar of the bridge in the water while rescuers came to his aid. Police officers threw him a life vest and were able to bring him to shore. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center to be treated for injuries to his shoulder and leg. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.
