A Montville High School senior got in some pretty hot water for organizing a contest that ranked the attractiveness of female students.
Michael Butrym received a five-day suspension for organizing what he claims is an unofficial yearly tradition at the school called "May Madness." Every year, the senior says male students vote on the attractiveness of the school's female students. The rankings were determined in a model similar to NCAA tournament brackets.
"They get matched up every day like the college teams, and whoever looks better that day, we take a vote and move on," he says. "All done in good fun."
When Butrym and his pals wore shirts celebrating May Madness, it was the final straw for administrators.
"The administration has an obligation and duty to provide an appropriate harassment-free environment," says Superintendent Gary Bowen.
