A Montclair man was arrested and charged with murder after fatally shooting a woman in the head on New Year’s Eve, according to Bergen County prosecutors.

Officials say Luis Suarez shot and killed a 41-year-old woman in Ramsey. They say police arrived at 101 Williams St. around 7:30 p.m. on the report of a homicide. Police officers located the deceased woman with an apparent gunshot wound to her head, prosecutors say.

Suarez was arrested Sunday in Montclair and charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is being held at Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
