A grueling multi-month search came to a joyful end Thursday as 16-year-old Namiyah Salmond was safely reunited with her mother, ending a community-wide vigil that began in late spring.
Salmond had been missing since May 27, 2026, when she left her Bridgeport residence carrying a pink tote bag.
Her disappearance triggered an immediate Silver Alert by the Bridgeport Police Department and the Connecticut State Police, sparking a massive grassroots campaign by her family and local advocates.
Police Chief Roderick Porter says he's grateful to have located the teen with help from New York City Police.
"It's the end of a long nightmare for the mom -- and we are just so happy to have played a role in bringing this painful situation to an end," Porter said.
