Hundreds of New Jersey military families came together Sunday at the Asbury Park Convention Hall for a special holiday party.
The event was put together by Holiday Express, a volunteer group that puts on holiday shows for families. Family members say the holiday party gives them a chance to socialize with other families who understand what it?s like to have a family member serving overseas during the holidays.
Families say it is difficult celebrating the holidays without their entire families together, and many have to put some traditions, like dads putting up the Christmas tree, on hold. They say the party helps them enjoy the festive time of year.
"It's amazing how many families deserve this,? Laura Mechkowsi, a military wife, says. ?It's a way to come together and spend holidays together.?
