Mikie Sherrill is set to become New Jersey's 57th governor on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.

It's the first time in decades that one party has won three consecutive terms as New Jersey's governor.

Sherrill will become the first female Democratic governor.

Former Governor Christine Todd Whitman posted in X saying, "I couldn’t be happier to no longer be NJ’s only woman governor. Congratulations, Governor-elect @MikieSherrill, I know you’re going to do great things for our state!"

New Jersey Democrats are celebrating today.

"The people have spoken, and when you get out and vote, good things happen, said David Arensburg of Montclair. "So lets build on it for 26 and see what happens in 28."

Former NJ Assemblyman John Wisniewski was on our Vote 2025 show with what Sherrills next steps will be.

"She needs to start thinking about putting together an administration...who's going to be her chief of staff, who are going to fill those principle cabinet office roles, what is she going to want to roll out when she makes her innaugural address in January....what's going to be her first budget when she makes that first budget address. There are a million issues that she needs to nail down between now and January. There's probably not enough time but she's got good people around her that will help her," said Wisniewski.

Sherrill is expected to meet with Governor Phil Murphy.
