A Mays Landing man is recovering after being trapped in an asphalt bin for approximately two and a half hours Tuesday morning in Egg Harbor Township.
Police say 26-year-old Cameron Briggs was inside a recycled asphalt bin at A.E. Stone on Doughty Road when he fell backward, causing asphalt to collapse onto his lower body. The asphalt pinned Briggs in a seated position, leaving him unable to move.
Workers tried to free him for about 20 minutes before calling for emergency assistance. Briggs remained conscious and alert as crews worked to rescue him, while the risk of additional asphalt collapsing posed another danger.
Multiple emergency agencies responded, including the Atlantic City Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team. Briggs was eventually freed and transported by EMS to a local hospital for minor injuries and further evaluation.
