The fire was at the apartment complex located at 4000 Avalon Way in Piscataway.
The American Red Cross was at the scene to help those families displaced. It was unclear if anyone was hurt.
There is some good news to report – Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler says that firefighters were able to rescue a dog named Aubie.
