Mayor Bill de Blasio is pushing forward with the mandate that anyone who wants to partake in indoor dining, indoor gym classes or indoor entertainment must show proof that they've been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The mayor says he believes strongly that this is the right decision, adding that the president has backed his decision.

To date, the mayor says more than 10 million doses of the vaccine have been administered in New York City with more than 5 million people in the city fully vaccinated. De Blasio also says they tried to encourage people to get vaccinated with incentives, like the $100 that's still on the table, and that this mandate is the only solution moving forward.

Despite claims of support across the board, the mayor of Boston expressed concern over the concept of asking people "to show their papers" - saying it's reminiscent of a long history of people being asked to show their papers.

The mayor says they've seen tremendous cooperation from business owners so far and even went so far as to say business owners have told him they're glad he's putting this mandate forward.

In the coming weeks, he says they'll educate and prepare business owners and then follow up with inspections and, if necessary, enforcements the week of Sept. 13.
