It's estimated that 20 million people live within a one-hour drive of Long Island Sound, but many of them have no idea what's under the water.

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, whose mission is to give visitors a closer look at the Sound, now has a way for visitors to explore more closely and deeply what lies "under the sea."

This is the first summer, the R/V Sound Explorer has set out to continue the aquarium's shipboard programming, offering hands-on learning for students and visiors in an educational, yet fun experience.

R/V Sound Explorer heads out Wednesdays to Sundays, weather permitting. The Maritime Aquarium also offers sunset cruises on Long Island Sound.
