Two businesses were targeted over the weekend in a pair of smash-and-grab burglaries in Maplewood, according to police.
Officials say an object was thrown at the glass door at a business Saturday on Newark Way around 7 a.m. They say this is how the suspect was able to enter and steal the cash registers. They say the damaged cash registers with the cash removed were recovered from a nearby business.
The suspect is described as wearing a heavy coat, white hooded sweatshirt covering his head, a backpack, light-colored pants and a dark face mask.
Police say a similar situation happened the next day around 8 a.m. at Sabatino's Pizza on Valley Street. They say the suspect used an object to shatter the glass door and grabbed cash from the register before getting away in a dark colored SUV heading towards South Orange on Valley Street.
