A man who authorities say lit himself on fire in a park close to where the jury selection for former President Donald Trump’s trial was taking place has ties to New Jersey.

The NYPD says the man’s name is Maxwell Azzarello, and his license says he’s from St. Augustine, Florida.

Rutgers University officials confirmed that a student named Maxwell Azzarello “attended Rutgers University-New Brunswick and graduated in 2012 from the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy with a master’s degree in Urban Planning and Policy Development.”

A LinkedIn account with Azzarello’s name appears to show that he also held several jobs in New Jersey over the years.

The NYPD says that Azzarello took out pamphlets espousing conspiracy theories and spread them around the park before dousing himself in a flammable substance and setting himself on fire.

A family friend of Azzarello tells News 12 that he grew up on Long Island.

Officials say that Azzarello is in critical condition at the hospital.
