A man from New York has been
sentenced to 42 years in New Jersey State Prison for the 2018 aggravated sexual
assault of a housekeeper at Bally's
Hotel and Casino in
Atlantic City.
Jamel Carlton, 36, was convicted on five counts,
including aggravated sex assault and burglary.
Carlton must serve 85% of his sentence to be
eligible for early release. He is also not allowed to contact the victim pursuant to a sex offender
restraining order.
The incident sparked legislation that equips hotel
staff with panic devices when they are assigned to work in a guest room.
