An Egg Harbor Township man was arrested Wednesday after police say he phoned in a threat against Mays Landing Schools then pulled out a knife after being located by detectives.
Police say Herbert L. Myers, 42, called the Township of Hamilton Police Department in Atlantic County making threats against schools in Mays Landing. Immediately following the call, schools were notified and took "enhanced security measures." Officers from Hamilton as well as the Atlantic County Sheriff's Officers dispatched officers to patrol the areas in and around the schools as they conducted an investigation.
A short time later, officers were able to track down Meyers, who was traveling on a NJ Transit bus in the Vineland area.
"Police detectives contacted Myers on the bus where he brandished a knife. All passengers, the driver, and law enforcement officers safely evacuated the bus. The area of Landis Avenue and Main Road was shut down while the Vineland Police Department assisted with Myers’ safe surrender," Hamilton Police said in a statement.
Myers was arrested and is facing multiple charges including terroristic threats and creating a false public alarm. According to police, additional charges are pending as the investigation continues. The arrest was a collaborative effort involving multiple agencies including the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office, Egg Harbor Township Police Department, Bridgeton Police, Vineland Police, New Jersey State Police, New Jersey State Parole and New Jersey Transit.
