Man in custody in connection to Mount Vernon stabbing

Officials say 59-year-old Alfred Patton, of Mount Vernon, was arrested just a few blocks from the incident location.

The City of Mount Vernon says a man is in custody in connection to a stabbing on Tuesday.
Officials say 37-year-old Karoy Chandler was stabbed in the chest Tuesday morning.
They say detectives determined that the incident occurred in front of 227 South 3rd Ave. and also identified and located the suspect shortly after arriving on the scene.
Officials say 59-year-old Alfred Patton, of Mount Vernon, was arrested just a few blocks from the incident location.
Patton was taken to Mount Vernon City Jail, where he was charged with attempted assault, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Chandler was transported to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
