A man found dead inside the home of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins was identified as a family friend.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office says that 25-year-old Roosevelt Rene was found deceased inside of Jenkins’ home located at 14 Van Saun Place in Fair Lawn.
Officials did not release any information about the cause and manner of the death.
Jenkins is currently in Florida, where he lives during the off-season.
Jenkins’ brother Mo lives at the Fair Lawn home year-round. Officials say that Rene had also been living there recently.
Neighbors say that the death and the investigation have upset them.
“Wonderful people. Never had an issue with them,” says neighbor Deanne Johnson. “They’ve been here for two years.”
Other neighbors say that Jenkins is friendly with the children who live on the block.
“Very nice guys, all of them. Very nice people. Never expected this to happen,” says Kenny Little.
A spokesman for the Giants says the team is monitoring the situation but didn't comment further.
Jenkins played at Florida from 2008 to 2010 before finishing his college career at North Alabama. The St. Louis Rams drafted him in the second round in 2012. He played four seasons with the Rams and the last two seasons with the Giants.
