A man was escorted out of a Times Square vaccine site Wednesday morning after shouting at employees to put an end to vaccinations of children.

Mayor Eric Adams and city Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Wasan visited a vaccine site in Times Square today as the COVID-19 vaccine rollout for children under 5 kicks off.

Before Adams and the health commissioner got to the event, a man stormed into the vaccine site and yelled at employees to stop the vaccinations on children. He identified himself as a member of the Riverdale Presbyterian Church. He was later escorted out by the police.

After the incident, the mayor and health commissioner got a tour of vaccination site, which will be exclusively dedicated to vaccinating children under 5. Parents can take their kids to get vaccinated and will be able to ask questions on site. After the shot is done, the child and the parent can wait in a play area for observation.

The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have approved both the Pfizer and Moderna shots for this age group. Health officials say children may experience some mild symptoms such as soreness at the injection site and fatigue.

Vasan is urging parents to talk to their pediatricians about any lingering concerns. Parents can make appointments for their little ones through the city’s vaccine finder or walk in at one of the city’s 10 vaccine hubs.
