Man charged in Somerville deadly stabbing found competent to stand trial
David Shroitman was charged with homicide in the death of Mary Rose Fealy.
A Somerville man charged in the stabbing death of a 27-year-old woman in 2024 has been found competent to stand trial, a judge ruled.
David Shroitman, 30, was charged with homicide in the stabbing death of 27-year-old Mary Rose Fealy.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, on Jan. 30, 2024, Somerville police responded to a 911 call regarding an injured and unresponsive woman outside an apartment complex on North Bridge Street. The victim had been stabbed multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. Following an investigation, the medical examiner identified the woman as Fealy and determined her death to be a homicide.
Following an investigation, Shroitman was arrested and charged on Feb. 5, 2024. It was also determined that Shroitman knew the victim and that the two were high school classmates, graduating from Somerville High School in 2014.
The prosecutor's office said originally, Shroitman was found incompetent to stand trial following evaluations by doctors in April 2025.
"Judge Peter Tober ordered that Shroitman be committed to the Ann Klein Forensic Center to be restored to competency," the prosecutor's office said in a statement. "Another hearing was held on Aug. 13, 2026 and following the additional testimony of doctors, Judge Tober found Shroitman competent to stand trial. Judge Tober found that Shroitman has an extraordinarily competent understanding of the facts of his case and that continued
counseling and medication at Ann Klein increased the defendant's ability to participate meaningfully in his defense."
Shroitman's next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 14.
