Man arrested for selling car with fake title in West Hempstead

A Queens man is accused of selling a stolen car to a victim in Nassau County over the summer.
A 55-year-old man arranged to meet an individual who posted the vehicle for sale on social media, according to Electronics Squad Fraud and Forgery Section detectives.
The victim and subject exchanged $18,000 in cash for the 2026 Hyundai Sonata at the encounter on July 10 in West Hempstead.
After the sale, the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles determined that the title was counterfeit, and the Hyundai had been reported stolen within the confines of New York City, Nassau police say.
An investigation was conducted and Kevin Perez, 25, of Jamaica, was arrested without incident.
Perez will be charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument and forgery, when he is arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
